My Favorite Hip Hop Singles of 2006

This post if for Chong....he complained enough about having to see John Clayton's face that I decided to post.  Some of my co-workers and I were emailing eachother about hip hop this year, and we all decided to make a list of our top 10 favorite hip hop songs of the year.  I embeded each song so you guys could hear all of em because most of em aren't really on the radio.  Hope you enjoy.

10.T.I. - Why You Wanna

This song is just so catchy to me.  I'm haven't been a huge T.I. fan in the past, but this  song just gets my attention whenever I hear it that I had to put it on the list.

9.   The Game – Wouldn’t Get Far

The Game's CD is one of the best West Coast CD's I've heard in years, and I just love this song.  But I can't put up the song on my xanga, it's just too shady.

8.   Murs – Silly Girl

Murs is a new LA rapper, and I like him a lot.  This song is awesome...I think I like it even morebecause it's was put together by my favorite producer, 9th Wonder.

7.   Talib Kweli – Listen

I think Talib is the probably one of the best MC's out, if not the best right now.  This song just has a great beat and shows of Talib's lyrics and flow.

6.   Ghostface feat. Wu-Tang Clan - 9 Milli Bros

This is the best Wu-Tang song I've heard in years.  It shows that all the guys are still at the top of their craft.

5.   Lupe Fiasco – Hurt Me Soul

Lupe had my favorite album of the year, and I just love this song.  It's really mellow, but shows the genius of Lupe's lyrics and his awareness of social issues.

4.   Strange Fruit Project – Special

This song just reminded me of the greatness of east coast underground hip hop.  Again produced by 9th Wonder.

3.   Common Market – Connect For

I would have never guessed this song was by 2 white guys from Seattle, but I love the chill beat and how they flow together.

2.    Nas – Can’t Forget About You

This is just one of my favorite samples of all time.  It's a great mix of a great MC with one of the most classic love songs of all time.  Not a likely combo, but it works perfectly.

1.     The Procussions feat. Talib Kweli – Miss January

The Procussions are a new group from NY and the first group for the new Rawkus Records.  This song just reminded me of how great east coast hip hop was back in the late 90's.

The best time of year for sports.

I love March....The tournament, the end of the regular season for the NBA, and baseball starts.

Not to mention this year the college dunk contest was amazing.  Move over Vince and Igou...here comes MR. WHITE!!!

Not to be outdone.....

This guy is awesome, plus his celebrations are hilarious.  Somebody please pick this guy in the draft.  We need to see him in the NBA somewhere.

I'll call it now....06 NBA Dunk Champion.

And since openning day was yesterday I think I should make my second annual baseball predictions.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Division Winners:

NL West:

Dodgers

NL Central:

Cardinals

NL East:

Mets

Wildcard:

Cubs

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Division Winners:

AL West:

Oakland

AL Central:

Indians

AL East:

Yankees

AL Wildcard:

Angels

Awards:

NL MVP:  Albert Pujols...nough said.

NL CY Young:  Lead the NL in Ks and ERA last year.  A year older, better, and more mature, Jake Peavy will take home the award this year.

NL ROY:  With Florida's young team Jeremy Hermida will step up and give Cabrera some help.

AL MVP:  Gotta go with Vlad this year...I think he will carry the Angels to the playoffs.

AL CY Young:  One of the best young pitchers in baseball...Rich Harden

AL ROY:  The best catcher in Japan for the past 5 seasons.  Kenji Johjima (aka Yo mama) knows how to play the game.

BTW

Congratulations to UCLA and Ben Howland.  They had a much better year than anyone could have predicted.  I was super disappointed they didn't win it all, but UCLA is really young and will be better next year.  I was especially diasppointed they lost to Flordia cause I can't stand Noah....what a dork...he was winking and blowing kisses at the UCLA cheerleaders because they were calling him ugly.  Hahahaha.  War UCLA cheerleaders.

FINALLY......

I can say that UCLA won because they had a better coach and a better center.  Thank you Ben & Ryan.

You're the man Ryan...but, PLEASE do better than 2/11 at the free throw line in the Final Four.
